Ranch grad to make history

Danny Walker will compete in the NCAA Men's Golf Championships May 27-30, in Eugene, Ore.

Lakewood Ranch High graduate Danny Walker will become the first Mustang athlete to play for a NCAA Division I National Championship when the University of Virginia men’s golf team tees off in the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships May 27, in Eugene, Ore. 

Walker, a sophomore for the Cavaliers, fired a 72-68-72 in the Franklin, Tenn. Regional to help Virginia qualify by a single shot over Washington. The Cavaliers shot 22-under par for the three-day qualifier, which was the best NCAA Regional score in Virginia history. 

During his time at Lakewood, Walker won an individual state championship as a freshman in 2010 before helping lead the Mustangs to three-consecutive team state championships from 2011 to 2013. 

Walker is currently ranked 155th in the nation, according to the most recent NCAA Men’s Golf Rankings.
