Fall holds special significance in Florida. When the temperature finally drops to a (slightly) more comfortable level, locals jump at the chance to enjoy some time outdoors. While you enjoy the break from the heat, what better way to relax than with a cocktail? This spin on a classic old fashioned marries the smoothness of bourbon with the bold kick of blood orange liqueur and bitters. Matthew Serrano, of The Table Creekside and Phillippi Creek Oyster Bar, shows you how to make one.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ oz. Kentucky bourbon
  • ½ oz. blood orange liqueur
  • ½ tsp. brown sugar
  • 1 slice orange (no rind)
  • 1 cherry (no stem)
  • 1 dash blood orange bitters

Directions:

  • Muddle all ingredients except bourbon in a glass.
  • Add bourbon and ice; shake well and strain over clean ice.
  • To impress your dinner-party guests, purchase ice sphere molds and infuse ice with blood orange juice or orange zest for a more vibrant, flavorful cocktail.
  • Enjoy!
