Primrose students meet the commissioner
Vanessa Baugh talks to kindergarten class about the importance of voting.
County Commissioner Vanessa Baugh obviously has had experience campaigning.
But this was a totally different animal.
Baugh read the book "Duck for President" to Susan Artemik's kindergarten class at the Primrose School at Lakewood Ranch on Nov. 8. Primrose hosted a special day of activities for the children to teach them why voting is so important.
Baugh was a special guest who talked to the students about her position as county commissioner.
"She was absolutely amazing," said Sharon Frank, the Primrose owner. "You can tell that she has grandchildren because of how well she engaged with the kids. We would definitely be honored to have her back."
Following the book, students were able to cast their own vote on whether they wanted Billy the Duck or Percy the Rooster for president at their pre-school. Additionally, students were able to vote on the snack they would be eating, a frozen yogurt bar or goldfish.
The students waited in line, casted their votes and shook Baugh's hand as she placed an "I voted" sticker on their shirts.
