Holiday Night of Lights

Takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at St. Armands Circle Park. Kick off the holiday season with an event featuring performances by the Sarasota High School Theater Dance Group and Chamber Choir, a Christmas carol sing-a-long, tree lighting and a special visit from Santa Claus. Call 388-1554.

Category II Longboat Key Senior Men’s Tournament

Takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 29 to Dec. 4 at the Longboat Key Public Tennis Center, 590 Bay Isles Road, the Longboat Key Club, 220 Sands Point Road, and Cedars Tennis Club, 645 Cedars Court. Call 316-8367

 

Thursday, Dec. 1

Sip & Shop

Takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. at J McLaughlin, 515 Bay Isles Parkway. The event is hosted by the Longboat Key Chamber of Commerce’s community outreach committee. Fifteen percent of sales will benefit Salvation Army Adopt-a-Family. For information, call J McLaughlin at 960-2071.

 

Island Business After Hours

Takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sandbar Restaurant, 100 Spring Ave., Anna Maria Island. Enjoy a networking event for the Manatee, Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key chambers of commerce members and guests. There will be a cash bar, complimentary appetizers and door prizes. Saturday, Dec. 3

Christ Church Toy and Food Drive

Takes place from 9 a.m. to noon at Christ Church of Longboat Key, Presbyterian, 6400 Gulf of Mexico Drive. New, unwrapped toys, books and bikes for children of all ages will be accepted. The donations will be given to Turning Points, an agency that provides services to the homeless in Manatee County. The church will also collect canned goods for Our Daily Bread, an agency that provides nutritional needs for the needy. For more information, contact Sue Wertman at 383-1731.

 

Kiwanis Club Gourmet Lawn Party

Takes place from noon to 2 p.m. at the Longboat Key Club’s Islandside driving range, 301 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Enjoy dishes from more than 30 restaurants. Tickets are $50. Tables of 10 are available for $450. Raffle tickets will be sold for $100 apiece. Call 383-0440.

 

Sunday, Dec. 4

Run for the Birds

Check-in begins at 7 a.m., the race begins at 8 a.m. at Ed Smith Stadium, 2700 12th St. Join Save Our Seabirds and the Baltimore Orioles for a 5K and 1-mile run to benefit Save Our Seabirds. Cost is $35 for the 5K and $25 for the 1-mile run. Call 388-3010.

 

Monday, Dec. 5

Lunch & Learn: How to stay independent at home

Takes place from 10 a.m. to noon at Aging in Paradise Resource Center, 6200 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Michael Jones, owner of Comfort Keepers, and other panelists will discuss how to create increased income, avoid the pitfalls of home care, eliminate mortgage expenses and other topics. Networking @ Noon
