Sunday, Sept. 11
Standing with our Fallen, 9/11 15-Year Commemoration
Takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Patriot Plaza at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9820 State Road 72. Stand with the fallen of 9/11 during the 15-year commemoration. Prior to the commemoration, citizens can adopt a fallen victim by going to bit.ly/29R65gP and choosing from the 2,977 names engraved on the 9/11 Memorial in New York City. Attendees will state their adopted fallen’s name during the tolling of the bell. First responders, active military and veterans will be recognized, as well. The first 500 attendees will be given red, white and blue flowers to place in a mesh that will become the American flag.
Saturday, Sept. 10
Sixth Annual 9/11 Fundraiser
Takes place from noon to 4 p.m. at Island Time Bar & Grill, 111 Gulf Drive, Bradenton Beach. Honor those who sacrificed and served on 9/11 as well as those who continue to serve our country. The event is $15 with advance purchase; $20 at the door. The price includes an all-you-can-eat buffet, as well as a 50/50 raffle, live music, silent auction, drink specials and games for kids. All proceeds will benefit the Manatee Emergency Service Memorial Fund. All police, firefighters, EMTs and those who are inactive or active in the military will receive a complimentary ticket. Electrify the Island
Takes place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium, 1600 Ken Thompson Parkway. Kick off National Drive Electric Week with a plug-in electric vehicle expo, ride-and-drive sessions and vendor booths focusing on sustainability and energy efficiency. Local electric vehicle owners will also be in attendance with their cars and will answer questions for attendees. Admission to the aquarium is not required to attend the event.
Tuesday, Sept. 13
Harness the Power of Mobile
Takes place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Longboat Key Education Center, 5370 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Join speaker Barbara Langdon, of Marketing Momentum, to learn how to use mobile technology for business. Attendees will learn how to drive action with mobile marketing and create content with and for mobile. Cost is $25. For reservations, call 383-2466.
