Saturday evening South Gate Community Association President Sandee Davis met a new neighbor. The two sparked a conversation and realized the had mutual friends in common all along.
It’s that sense of community that Davis has enjoyed as a resident of South Gate for more than 35 years.
“This is such an awesome community,” Davis said. “We’re just decent, hard-working people who have found a community for their families.”
Davis and fellow neighbors gathered at the South Gate Community Center for the community’s 60th anniversary party.
Food trucks and bounce houses were available for guests to enjoy while live music played in the historic community center that was designed by architect Victor Lundy.
Aside from neighbors the party also attracted couples like Barbie and Bill Middleton who chose the venue for their nuptials almost 36 years ago. Barbie Middleton shared her experience with Angy Miller who chose the location three years ago to marry husband Matthew Miller.
“We picked it because we liked the view,” Barbie Middleton said. “It’s exactly the same as it was with the same curtains and everything.”
