1 — Former Sarasota High baseball player Evan Mendoza was named the New York-Penn League’s Player of the Week for July 24-30. He went 13-26 with five doubles and a triple for the State College Spikes, a St. Louis Cardinals affiliate, during the week.

2 — Booker High senior WR/QB Talik Keaton verbally committed to the University of South Florida on July 29.

3 — Booker High junior gymnast Hannah Joyner verbally committed to Temple University on July 24.

4 — Sarasota YMCA Sharks swimmer Chasen Dubs qualified for the YMCA Short Course National Championships in the 100-yard breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and freestyle at the 2017 Area 5 Swimming Championships on July 27 in Naples.

5 — Sarasota’s Aaron Whitley won the girls 13-15 division of the North Florida PGA Junior Tour event on July 29-30 at the Ritz Carlton Members Golf Club in Bradenton. With rounds of 78 and 74, she finished at +8, tied with Bradenton's Rachel Carlson.
