The verdict is clear — Sarasota tops Santa’s nice list. It’s impossible to share all the good deeds from around Sarasota. So here are just a handful to warm your heart this holiday season.
Helping hands came with a heaping helping of Sailor Pride on Dec. 2. Sarasota High School cheerleaders helped residents from Sarasota’s senior care facilities find their seats before First Baptist Church’s special presentation of the Singing Tree.
For Junior League of Sarasota members, the magic is in the details. That was the belief on Dec. 14 when JLS members collected wrapping paper and ribbon for the Child Protection Center’s holiday party for its clients. Parents will get to peruse toys for the children and use JLS’s donated wrapping supplies to put their finishes touches on the gifts.
For the first year in many, the Siesta Key Association wasn’t sure it would be able to bring up the end of the Siesta Key Village Christmas Parade with Santa. Until the week before, the organization had no ride.
When County Commissioner Al Maio found out about the predicament, he told SKA President Catherine Luckner not to drop out of the parade just yet.
In the end, Maio knew a guy at the Sarasota Firefighters Benevolent Fund who was able to donate the organization’s vintage fire truck for the cause. Santa was able to ride in style thanks to the charity’s generosity.
Before the public gets a look at the Singing Christmas tree at First Baptist Church in downtown Sarasota, the congregation opens its doors to those living in senior care facilities. The singers use the free performance as a final dress rehearsal while offering its seasonal sights and sounds to Sarasota’s elder population.
When looking for helpers, Santa didn’t have to look further than Sarasota’s Young Professionals Group. Members spent the morning of Nov. 18 at Girls Inc. of Sarasota wrapping gifts to be given to Girls Inc. participants.
