Local fans of “The Hills” and “Laguna Beach” can rejoice, because MTV set the date for its latest reality series.
“Siesta Key” will premiere at 10 p.m. on July 31.
The new “docuseries,” as MTV calls it, will center around the lives of local teenagers and young adults coming home for the summer.
At 9:18 p.m. on Monday night, the show’s official Twitter account, @SiestaKey, tweeted “Get ready for the summer of a lifetime in #SiestaKey.” Accompanying the tweet was the same trailer that announced the show at the MTV Movie & TV Awards on May 7.
The caption below the trailer reads “To the beach...Siesta Key premieres July 31st at 10/9c on MTV.”
The brief, 15-second trailer shows a young couple kissing while the words “This Summer…From The Hills…to The Beach. Welcome to Siesta Key. Monday July 31” flash across the scene, ending on a shot resembling the Intercostal Waterway.
“Siesta Key” was shot locally in April-July, and it is being marketed almost identically to the network’s last hit reality series following a group of wealthy young people: “The Hills” — even down to the same typeface used in the show’s marketing materials.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the tweet had 229 favorites, 32 retweets and five comments, and the post on the MTV Facebook page with the same trailer and the caption “Summer in Siesta Key is about to heat up.” received 900 reactions, 169 comments and 94 shares.
The official trailer for the show was released on July 11 and shows a raging party at the home of Gary Kompothecras, the chiropractor most known for his legal and medical referral service 1-800-ASK-GARY.
This is a developing story and more information will be added as it becomes available.
