A truck crashed into the front of the Lobster Pot restaurant on Siesta Key on Fourth of July morning, but the restaurant will be back in business July 6.

The incident happened around 9:45 a.m. at the restaurant on the corner of Ocean Boulevard and Canal Road, according to Lobster Pot General Manager Tony Medeiros. He said no one is hurt.

As Medeiros and another person were preparing to open the restaurant from the back, they heard a loud crash and shattering glass. When they rushed to the front, they "saw a big truck in our lanai dining room," Medeiros said.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the truck "apparently suffered a medical episode" and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Because of the Fourth of July traffic, a removal team can't make it out to Siesta Key to get the truck out of the building.

"All is well. We just got to get cleaned up and get contractors out here and get clearance to operate," Medeiros said.

The restaurant was closed July 4 and 5, but is set to reopen July 6 after county officials deemed the building operational.

The patio area of the restaurant will be closed, leaving the restaurant with about 40 seats left out of 60.
