MTV reveals trailer for 'Siesta Key' reality series

Siesta Key residents, and the rest of the nation, now have a first glimpse of the new program set and shot here.

On July 11, MTV released the first full-length trailer (see below)  of its newest reality series, "Siesta Key." Filmed on the island this past April through June, the "docuseries" features young adults and teenagers returning home to the island for the summer. 

The program is produced by the same group behind "Laguna Beach," the popular 2004 series that chronicled privileged young adults in a beach town that created several spin offs and launched the careers of multiple celebrities. According to MTV, the new series will focus on "confronting issues of love, heartbreak, betrayal, class and looming adulthood."

In the trailer, the main characters address all those issues while drinking and dancing across the island's beaches, pools and bars. 

"Summer in Siesta Key is like no other," says Chloe Trautman, one of the show's main characters, in the trailer. 

Ahead of its July 31 premiere, the series has drawn mixed reactions from Siesta Key residents. Some are excited the spotlight an MTV program will bring to the area as well as the potential to attract younger visitors. Others have voiced concerns that "Siesta Key" will inaccurately portray the island as a rowdy party destination and create with it a similar reputation as Daytona Beach and Panama City Beach.
