An estimated 150 Sarasota County residents were without water service as of the morning of July 17 following a water main break earlier in the day. The break of the 12 inch water main has shut off services for those residents in the vicinity of Beneva Road and Beneva Woods Boulevard.

As of July 18, county officials expect detours and lane closures to continue in that area through July 21 due to extensive damage under the pavement. County officials on July 18 said water service has been restored to residents in the area, but standard testing procedures are still underway to assure water quality.

Sarasota County had put the below area under a precautionary boil water advisory until water service is restored.

The break has also damaged the road near the intersection and motorists are still advised to avoid the area, which is southbound on Beneva Road between Clark Road and Proctor Road. Officers from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office were on scene directing traffic detours as utilities personnel work to fix the break.
