One Sarasota resident is dead and three others injured following a three-vehicle accident on north Siesta Key Wednesday evening.

Guy Theron, 57, died at Sarasota Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in the crash, the Sarasota Police Department announced. Ian Lee, 18; Killian Metz, 17; and Darian Callahan, 19 were all transported to the hospital with injuries, but are expected to recover.

The accident occurred at Higel Avenue and Faubel Street in the Bay Island neighborhood at about 6 p.m., the police department announced. Investigators believe Theron was speeding northbound on Higel Avenue and swerved twice, striking the two southbound vehicles. The incident is still under investigation.

The crash closed the north bridge to Siesta Key for several hours. Authorities cleared the scene and reopened the area to traffic shortly after 10 p.m.

A fatal crash occurred in the same area earlier this year. Residents recently began advocating more vocally for safety improvements near the intersection of Higel and Siesta Drive.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
