MAP: Ahearn-Koch, Brody and Hyde head to runoff for commission seats

Jen Ahearn-Koch, Hagen Brody and Martin Hyde move on to a May 9 runoff election for two at-large seats on the Sarasota City Commission, after Tuesday’s election.

Three Sarasota City Commission candidates will head to a May 9 runoff for two at-large seats. It won’t include incumbent Susan Chapman, who lost out on the third slot in the race to newcomer Martin Hyde by 52 votes, according to preliminary results from Tuesday’s election.

Neighborhood leader and former planning board member Jen Ahearn-Koch was the top vote-getter, capturing 21% of all votes cast, while attorney Hagen Brody, who has no experience working within local government, came in second with 20% of votes cast. Hyde ended up with 15% of the 12,759 votes cast.
