East County Athlete of the Week: 03.22.17

Sereena Feeney is a junior at The Out-of-Door Academy. She is currently starring on the girls lacrosse team, but also plays on the Thunder girls basketball team. Feeney won ODA's girls lacrosse MVP award last season and has continued her strong play in 2017. She has scored three or more goals in a game four times so far this season. 

How long have you played lacrosse?

I've been playing since seventh grade. All my friends were doing it, and they said 'Oh, you should try this out,' so I joined. I made varsity, and I was a starter for most of the year. It was pretty cool. 

What is the appeal of lacrosse to you?

I just like having control most of the time. In basketball, some people are on really different levels, and I cannot really depend on them. In lacrosse, all of us work as a team and have really good chemistry. I also like the pace of the game.  

What is your best skill on the field?

My speed. I like transitioning into fast breaks. I get a lot of my goals that way, definitely. 

Why do you wear No. 14?

It was my mom's (Kathleen Feeney) soccer number in high school and college.

What is your favorite lacrosse memory?

I do not know if I have one. That is really bad, right? Oh, well, it was not on the field, but I won MVP of our team last year at our banquet. 

What is your favorite subject in school? Why?

Psychology. I'm into forensic psychology. I'm into the idea of there being two sides to every story. Say someone committed a crime. I want to know what caused them to do what they did. That is what I'm looking to do in the future. 

What is your favorite TV show or movie?

My favorite TV show is 'Shameless,' and my favorite movie is 'Lilo and Stitch.'

Where is your dream vacation destination?

I really want to go to the Turks and Caicos Islands. I have heard it's really nice there. 

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

Work harder than your biggest competitor. Be better than your rivals. My mom tells me that all the time.
