David Matthews

The Rev. David C. Matthews, 76, of Bradenton, died March 11.

He was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and graduated from Baylor University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served First Baptist Church in Sanger, Texas; First Baptist Church in Altus, Okla.; Seventh and James Baptist Church in Waco, Texas; First Baptist Church in Greenville, S.C.; Christ Community Church in Orlando and Royal Lane Baptist Church in Dallas. He was a member of All Angels by the Sea Episcopal Church in Longboat Key.

He was president of Gold Label Publications. He composed six sacred music compositions, which were published.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; son Kyle Matthews; daughter Kerri Boyette; stepdaughter Catherine Fryback; sister Kay Matthews; and four grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on March 27 at All Angels by the Sea Episcopal Church, 563 Bay Isles Road.

Loraine M. Calvi

Loraine Calvi, 98, of Fair Haven, Vt., died March 9.

She was born on March 8 to Thomas and Margaret Mahar. She graduated as valedictorian from the Fair Haven High School and attended the University of Vermont and Bay Path Institute in Brattleboro, Vt. After college, she worked for banks in Fair Haven and Poultney, Vt. In 1943, she married Ned S. Calvi.

She and Ned owned and operated Woods Agency Inc.

She was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Loraine was family oriented and active with her grandchildren, with whom she shared her homes in Fair Haven, Lake Bomoseen and Longboat Key.

She is survived by her daughters, Nedra Calvi and Ann Marie Maher; son David Calvi; their spouses and children; 18 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard H. Goldwater

Richard Goldwater, 71, of Longboat Key, died March 7.

Eudora De Renne Roebling

Eudora De Renee Roebling, of Sarasota, died March 5.

She was born in Savannah, Ga. and spent her early years at the family home, Wormsloe Plantation. In 1938, her family moved to Athens, Ga.

She graduated from St. Margaret’s School in Tappahannock, Va., and Mount Holyoke College. Gardening, badminton and horseback riding were some of her favorite hobbies, and she was an avid supporter of the Pony Club. She was a Colonial Dame and a member of the Welsh Society, the Mount Holyoke Club and the Junior League.

In 1953, she married Wainwright Roebling in Athens, where they raised their family before moving to Panama City Beach.

She had a pilot’s license and an amateur-radio license. She loved fishing. Wainwright and Eudora lived in Longboat Key for 17 years before moving to Sarasota.

Eudora is survived by her husband; sons Robert and Henry Roebling; daughters Audrey Roebling, Mary Gabrielle and Clara Roebling.
