Several local ladies and their little girls showered Brigid Saah on March 26 at the home of Beth Karins. The baby shower, which was hosted by Lindsay Schwager, was airplane-themed because Brigid and her husband, Shane, are naming their new daughter Piper Saah, and they happen to own a Piper airplane. The 40 guests included familiar faces such as Kara Saunders, Kelly Romanoff, Jessica Hays and Melissa Long, along with 15 guests’ daughters who were invited to join their mothers and take part in activities including a contest to see who could drink apple juice out of a baby bottle the fastest. Fun fact: the Karins family owns Brigid’s childhood home, so the party took place in the house in which she grew up. This is the first of four mommy-to-be celebrations that have been planned in Brigid’s honor, so Jessica Hays says she might be the most loved person in Sarasota.

Two of the three Blue Ties & Butterflies Co-Chairwomen, Tammy Karp and Donna Koffman, began prepping for the event March 22 at Child Protection Center. The dynamic duo wrapped marbles for the traveling pillar of hope that eventgoers will have the opportunity to drop a marble in, just as supporters of CPC traditionally do when visiting the center. The mini pillar mimics the permanent structure at the main campus, which symbolizes the CPC mindset that no child stands alone when they walk through the doors of the building. The annual CPC fundraising gala will take place at 6 p.m. April 19 at Michael’s On East.

Embracing the theme … Some guests took the Fairytale Ball: “A Sprinkle of Pixie Dust” theme extra seriously at the March 25 gala. Tom Casmer donned a tall red cap and faux butterfly in his beard to pass as a gnome, and Richard LaBrie and Lisa Kates went as the Tooth Fairy and Mother Nature from “The Santa Clause 2.”... Cuts for a cause  Guests at Cutting Loose Salon are now invited to donate to the not-for-profit Nik Wallenda Family Foundation when visiting its various locations. At least two of the five people who were injured during a Circus Sarasota accident on Feb. 2 were reported to be members of the Wallenda family, so any money donated at the salon will go directly to the injured to help cover the necessary medical and rehabilitation expenses incurred. Guests who donate a minimum of $10 will receive a gift from the salon
