MAY 10

IT RUNS DOWNHILL

10:36 a.m. – 1000 block of Longboat Club Road

Disturbance/neighbor: An officer was sent to look into a report of a neighbor allowing a dog to relieve himself on an upstairs balcony, then washing the mess off with a hose to someone else's patio below. The responding officer reported the mess had been cleaned before his arrival and he could not determine its origin. The officer spoke by phone to the upstairs neighbor, who blamed birds. The officer told the downstairs neighbor to call again if needed and also recommended filing a report with the condo association.

MAY 11

SCIENCE!

9:50 A.M. – 800 block of Evergreen Way

Suspicious circumstance: A call to authorities over an apparent group of struggling swimmers was unfounded. The people in the water were from Mote Marine and were checking the health of marine animals.

NOT MINE

1:54 p.m. – Greer Island

Public service: While on foot patrol on Greer Island — also known as Beer Can Island — two officers discovered two packages, one containing four bottles of Red Dog Apple Ale and the other containing nine bottles of Bud Light Lime. When asked, no one nearby acknowledged ownership. The 13 bottles were brought back to the Police Department and disposed of.

MAY 13

FINDING THEIR STUFF

10:40 a.m. – Sarasota Bay

Assisting other agencies: An officer responded to the waters north of the 10th Street boat ramp on a report of swimmers in distress. The officer found the swimmers on shore upon arrival and learned Sarasota Police had helped them recover their overturned kayak that was adrift. The Longboat officer found some of their drifting personal items in the bay and returned them.

MAY 13

WORKING ON THE ROAD

10:52 a.m. – 3400 block of Winding Oaks Drive

Suspicious circumstance: An officer was flagged down at the north security gate on Harbourside Drive to check out a man a resident said was working on the sidewalk within the community. The officer determined the man was authorized and showed the resident the contract. The resident said the worker never advised him he would be there.
