The November edition of this monthly art event that combines live music and experiential art features performances by Brooklyn-based electro pop artist ESS SEE, St. Petersburg’s multi-instrumentalist Mountain Holler and Sarasota’s own Astralis and its funky bass lines.

 

Inside Asolo Rep: ‘Evita’

Get a “behind the curtain” look at Asolo Repertory Theatre’s production of “Evita” in this special series featuring Director and Choreographer Josh Rhodes and Music Director Sinai Tabak. The discussion will be moderated by Asolo Rep Dramaturg and Literary Manager Paul Adolphsen.

 

Chamber Concert 4:‘String Spectrum’

Sarasota Orchestra presents this two-part concert beginning with solo piece “Failing,” the subtitle of which is “A Very Difficult Piece for String Bass.” The concert ends with Schubert’s “String Quartet No. 15,” a challenging work for string quartet.

 

‘Flaming Guns of the Purple Sage’

8 p.m. at the Venice Theatre, 140 Tampa Ave W., Venice

This tale of a spunky rodeo competitor facing foreclosure on her Wyoming ranch and rehabilitation center for injured cowboys mixes horror and humor when she gets some unusual visitors. Runs through Nov. 19.

The Sarasota Film Society presents this 28th annual film festival, which showcases the best new independent and foreign films hand-picked from famous international film festivals in cities like Toronto and Cannes.

 

Artists’ Reception: Fine Arts Annual Curated Exhibition

The Fine Arts Department at Ringling College of Art & Design presents this annual exhibit of work done by students in the fine arts and visual studies departments. Exhibit runs through Nov. 16.

 

Don't Miss: Grand Opening  Celebration — ART Inside

Local artists Karin Billings, Joanna Coke, Susan Hurwitch, Dirce Kennedy, Judy Kramer and Dalia Shyevitch are celebrating the opening of their gallery in downtown Sarasota, and they want residents to join in the festivities. Enjoy drinks, music by Elinor Sevy and view the artists’ latest works — and if you’re inspired, participate in the gallery’s community art project.

The main event of the 16-day InspireSarasota! Festival in downtown Sarasota will feature performances by youth and cultural groups, arts organization booths, a children’s book giveaway, food and activities for all ages and interests.

 

Nik’s Pick: Beer, Boats & Bacon

Baconistas will delight in this festival of bacon-centric dishes from local restaurants and caterers. Guests can sip one of the 60-some local craft brews available.

Patricia Stenberg Memorial Concert

Every year, Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity hosts a memorial concert in honor of the late Sarasota Orchestra principal oboe player Patricia Stenberg. This philanthropic concert features solos, duets and a trio performing music from Cosi Fan Tutti, Le Nozze di Figaro, Rossini, and “Beauty and the Beast.”

The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast Inc., in partnership with Harvest Sarasota, presents this concert with the Omer Quartet. Comprising violinists Mason Yu and Erica Tursi, violist Jinsun Hong and cellist Alex Cox, this group of talented young musicians has performed throughout North America and Europe and won several competitions.

Key Chorale Annual Luncheon Featuring Dale Warland

Key Chorale’s annual luncheon will be extra memorable this year. The organization will award the 2017 Perfect Pitch Award to Richard Storm, its retired executive director, will feature Grammy-nominated composer and conductor Dale Warland and will launch a new student scholars program.
