Asolo Repertory Theatre’s fall musical, “Evita,” opened Nov. 18 with a lively pre-show VIP cocktail party and dinner in the mezzanine of the FSU Center for the Performing Arts. Asolo Rep Event Manager Laura Stuart Wood transported the 490-some guests to Buenos Aires with romantic table settings, roses by Flowers by Fudgie and a beef churrasco meal. No one would have known that Laura was apparently having a “linen crisis,” as she said in her Instagram post, 24 hours before! The linen company she used didn’t have enough of the product she wanted, she said, and she worried her substitute would not fit in.

The turnout was impressive Nov. 23 for this year’s ALSO Youth 8th Annual Turkey Trot 5K. There were 1,572 runners who crossed the finish line, and among the calorie burners were familiar faces such as Sally Schule, Kyla Weiner and Veronica Brady. The event raised money for ALSO Youth Sarasota, a nonprofit that provides advocacy, leadership, support and outreach to LGBTQIA youth and allies.
