The Florida High School Athletic Association released its initial points standings Tuesday, and both Lakewood Ranch and Braden River are performing relatively well.
The Pirates (1-1) are averaging 43 points per game, good for second in Class 7A District 11 behind Venice (46.33) and third in Class 7A Region 3 behind Venice and Pinellas Park (42.25). Lakewood Ranch is right behind them with 41 points, tied with District 11 mates Palmetto. For a more comprehensive breakdown of Class 7A schedules, go to FHSAA.org.
Since four wild card teams from each region make the playoffs, both Braden River and Lakewood Ranch would make the playoffs if the season ended today. However, the points system is volatile and the standings will likely look different at the end of the season.
