Sarasota police investigate Bay Street shooting

The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a shooting and apparent attempted armed robbery that took place in a Publix parking lot in the 2000 block of Bay Street around 5 a.m. Thursday.

The Police Department said the shooting occurred after a fight between two men during the attempted robbery. One man shot the other in the stomach and left the area, the department said. The victim is recovering at the hospital.

The police are still working to apprehend a suspect. The department asked anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Detective Dan Riley at 941-954-7062.
