The Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key celebrated the end of the week a day early on Oct. 5.
Members met at Giorgio’s on Hillview for happy hour.
In July, the club adjusted meeting times to accommodate more members. The first Thursday of the month will serve as a happy hour meet and greet. The happy hours will take place at Court 21 Cafe and Lounge at the tennis gardens of the Longboat Key Club.
Starting in November, the third Thursday of each month will be a luncheon at Portofino Restaurant and Grill on Harbourside Drive. This month’s luncheon will be held at The Lazy Lobster.
At the luncheon meetings, which begin at noon, the club will hear from different speakers. November’s speaker will be Sean Chan, who invented the Uno Bolt, an electric unicycle.
The club discussed other matters, including the annual kettle bell ringing for the Salvation Army. Starting the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas, Kiwanis members and supporters will be ringing a bell outside of the Longboat Key Publix to raise money for the Salvation Army.
Club members also got updates on the plans for this year’s annual Gourmet Lawn Party. This year’s party will take place from noon to 2 p.m. on Dec. 2, at the Islandside Driving Range of the Longboat Key Club. This year’s event is chaired by Bob Gault, Glenn Peterson and Asima Palmer. Tickets are on sale now for $50. Reserved tables of 10 for $450 are also available.
