Seven Manatee County public schools have been named “schools of excellence” by the State Board of Education. Six are located in East County.

Schools earning the recognition are: Anna Maria Elementary School, Gene Witt Elementary School, Gilbert W. McNeal Elementary School, Robert Willis Elementary School, B.D. Gullett Elementary School, Dan Nolan Middle School and Lakewood Ranch High School.

Schools earn the “school of excellence” distinction if their school grade calculation is in the 80th percentile or higher for schools comprised of the same grade grouping (elementary, middle or high) for at least two of the last three school years.
