OCT. 5

NO RESPONSE

1:03 a.m., 2500 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive

Noise disturbance: An officer sent to investigate a loud party on the fourth floor initially heard or saw nothing out of the ordinary inside the building. Only after another tenant in the hallway said the party was on a lanai did officers find the source of the disturbance because no one initially answered a knock on the door. The party hosts said they didn’t hear anyone at the door, and agreed to be quieter.

ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL

9:03 a.m., 500 block of Russell Street

Civil disturbance: A homeowner having an issue with a contractor called police. The homeowner told a responding officer that she entered into an agreement for some pool deck work to be done, but nothing had been accomplished, even though she paid half of the fee up front. The officer noted she hadn’t signed her portion of the proposal. The homeowner told the officer she hadn’t been able to contact the contractor for two months. The officer tried to contact the contractor, leaving a message on voicemail. The officer told the homeowner the issue was a civil matter, but provided a case number for future reference and asked to be kept up to date if anything develops.

IN THE WAY

9:46 a.m., 500 block of St. Judes Drive

Obstruction: An officer responding to a report of an obstruction in the road found a utility trailer blocking the eastbound lane of St. Judes Drive. While the trailer was marked with traffic cones, no workers were found nearby. The officer called the owner of the trailer, who said he would have it moved.

OCT. 10

OPEN DOOR POLICY

10:07 p.m., 6800 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive

Suspicious circumstance: A property owner returned home after a week away to find two normally secured doors open – one from the outdoors into the garage and the second from the garage into the home. The officer checked the interior and found nothing out of the ordinary. Everything seemed normal to the owner, as well.  The property owner said locks had been replaced around the entire complex recently, and workers might have forgotten to close the doors.

OCT. 10

NO SIGN OF THE RULES

12:36 a.m., Longboat Pass

Fishing: People fishing on the Longboat Pass bridge attracted the attention of police. When an officer arrived, he reported finding several people fishing on the top of the bridge, which leads from Longboat Key to Bradenton Beach. The officer told the anglers where fishing was allowed, and they moved. All four signs marking the proper areas for fishing were taken down before Hurricane Irma and have not yet been put back. The drawbridge tender said a request was made to return the signs.
