On September 18, Manatee Technical College was awarded a $4,600 Florida Financial Literacy Initiative grant from Wells Fargo, which will provide financial literacy classes to adult students who are learning English.

This grant will provide funding for 60 economically disadvantaged English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) students between October 9 and May 11 of next year.  In the financial literacy classes, these adult students will learn about banking, earned income tax credit, home ownership counseling, credit management, consumer credit education and abusive lending practice recognition.

To help ensure that the these adults will be able to attend the class, homework assistance will be provided to children while their parents are in their financial literacy classes, which will be held at Daughtrey Elementary School.
