East County High 5 Moments: 09.20.17

1 — Former Lakewood Ranch pitcher Seth McGarry, now of the Single-A Clearwater Threshers, was named to the Florida State League’s 2017 Year-End All-Star team Aug. 29.

2 — Former Braden River outfielder Myles Straw finished second in the Carolina League in batting average (.295) and fourth in hits (129) while playing for the Single-A Buies Creek Astros. The team’s season ended Sept. 4.   

3 — The Out-of-Door Academy senior cross country runner Kai Soderberg finished fourth in the Canes Cross Country Classic Sept. 4.

4 — Braden River volleyball player Samantha Drouin had 22 assists and six digs in the Pirates’ three-set (25-19, 25-15, 25-13) win against Bayshore High Sept. 6.

5 — A group of about 30 Braden River High football players helped with Hurricane Irma relief efforts at Bayside Community Church on Sept. 12.
