Down 14 points twice, the Lakewood Ranch High football team didn't quit, and its determination turned out to be worth the effort. 

The Mustangs scored 16 unanswered points in the second half to defeat Springstead High 23-21. Mason Fischer led Lakewood Ranch with 98 rushing yards, and Chase Sharp added 76 of his own, including 37 yards on a touchdown scamper. 

Mustangs quarterback Justin Curtis finished 9-of-15 through the air for 122 yards, a touchdown and an interception. 

Both Braden River High and The Out-of-Door Academy were idle on Friday night. The Pirates had a scheduled bye week, with a matchup with rival Venice High looming next week. The Thunder played Monday night, defeating Bradenton Christian 7-6.
