SEPT. 16

CAN YOU TURN IT DOWN?

2:53 p.m., 3400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive

Disturbance: A call about loud music sent police to a beachfront resort. The manager told the responding officer the occupants of a room refused to turn down their music, and that it was disturbing other guests. The officer spoke to the eight people in the room, none of whom indicated they spoke English, and made them understand his request to cut down on the volume.

 

SEPT. 16

WHAT’S THAT NOISE?

9:40 p.m., 3500 block of Mistletoe Lane

Suspicious circumstance: Two officers responded to a home regarding a strange noise coming from the fireplace. The homeowner was concerned an animal was trapped in the chimney. Upon inspection, the officers determined a metal flange, possibly damaged in Hurricane Irma, was making the noise. The homeowner said there had been other damage on that side of the house and that the chimney would be added to the list of things in need of repair after the storm.

 

SEPT. 19

TRUTH IN ADVERTISING

6:46 p.m., 3100 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive

Suspicious vehicle: A caller indicated a suspicious Ford Windstar van had been parked in front of a closed business for two hours. The van had a flat tire. The responding officer’s report indicated the van displayed a note on the window indicating the owner had gone to get a replacement tire and would be back in about two hours.

 

SEPT. 22

YUP, IT’S MINE

9:25 a.m., 5200 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive

Found property: A caller to police said a black purse and a bag of food had been sitting on the steps of a condominium for about 24 hours. The bag contained a laptop computer, a cell phone and some other items including medication. The responding officer was able to find the bag’s owner. Nothing was missing, and the owner signed a receipt acknowledging the return of her items.

 

 

SEPT. 22

SCARY, BUT BOGUS

10:56 a.m. 3800 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive

Harassing phone call: After receiving a pair of automated phone messages to call back or risk arrest from the local police, a resident called local police to find out what was up. The responding officer explained how to block specific telephone numbers because this was undoubtedly a scam designed to  fraudulently obtain personal information. The caller was not arrested.
