New College Thesis Exhibition: ‘On the Precipice | Transitions & Threshold’

This culmination of a year-long studio art research project will showcase the creative work of six New College seniors. From a series of charcoal figure drawings in the French Academic style to a multimedia installation approaching the topic of relationship violence and abuse, this exhibit covers a wide range of topics and mediums. Runs through May 11.

Nik's Pick: 2018 Ten-Minute Playwriting Festival

Experience fresh theatrical art at this vibrant Theatre Odyssey festival, which features eight original plays by playwrights from across the Gulf Coast. Writers will compete for the title of Best Play, which wins a $500 prize, and $300 for the runner-up. Runs through May 6.

‘An Inspector Calls’

The year is 1912, and the occasion is a dinner party at the home of a well-respected, wealthy English family. Inspector Goole interrupts festivities to perform what appears to be a routine inquiry in connection with the death of a young woman from the scruffy side of town. What he finds will change the Birling family dynamic forever. Runs through May 13.

Home Tour of the Agee Home with Guy Peterson

The 2018 Modern Show kicks off with this unique tour of one of Sarasota’s most highly regarded examples of modern architecture. Jump on the Center for Architecture Sarasota trolley and learn all about the property from architect Guy Peterson.

‘A Tribute to Music in Cinema’

This second annual festival offers a plethora of fresh, sustainable seafood from right here on the Gulf Coast. Royal Ballet Live Cinema: Bernstein Centenary

African-American music faced a major revolution as the evolutionary acts of the 1960s Civil Rights movement unfolded. This world premiere musical revue by Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe Founder and Artistic Director Nate Jacobs tells the story of what was once a genre known for Motown and how it expanded to include gospel and soul. Tap your toes along to iconic hits by stars such as James Brown, Otis Redding and Sam Cooke. Runs through May 26.
