Symphonic Wind Ensemble: ‘A Divine Comedy’

Take a trip through the afterlife with the The Symphonic Wind Ensemble at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota with this musical rendition of Dante Alighieri’s famous epic poem. Guests will experience “The Inferno,” “Purgatorio,” “The Ascension,” and “Paradiso” through this four-movement work, with each movement corresponding to a section of Dante’s literary classic.

Everyone’s favorite French love story is back and more lively than ever in this exuberantly scored retelling of Victor Hugo’s beloved story of not only love but acceptance and what it means to be a hero — whether you have a heartbeat or are made of stone. Runs through March 4.

Great Escapes 4: ‘It’s Been Reel’

Sarasota Orchestra is taking its patrons to the movies with this cinematic concert experience. Movies are often remembered for the scores they’re given — take “Gone with the Wind,” “The King and I” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” for example. One iconic song can help moviegoers remember a film for the rest of their lives, and that’s the reasoning behind this concert, which will feature music such as “Seventy-Six Trombones” from “The Music Man” and “La Violetera” from “City Lights.” Runs through Feb. 17.

Local nonprofit The Haven will join the Towles Court Artist Colony for its third Friday ArtWalk to celebrate the success and development of three Haven Photography Club students advancing their artistic potential. Nibble on desserts, sip sangria and enjoy the photography of The Vision Unbound Exhibit in the courtyard of Stephanie’s Hair Design Studio.

Everyone has that brutally honest friend they can go to for an honest opinion. That’s Orny Adams — the only difference is he does it onstage to make people laugh. Need a spot to hang after Thunder by the Bay? Check out some live music and toast to a good cause at Brick’s during every night of the festival. Two custom cocktails — the “Easy Rider” and “Rollin’ Thunder” — were created specially for the festival and are available now through Feb. 18. 2nd Annual Lido Beach Winter Fine Art Festival

Artists of multiple disciplines come from across the U.S. to sell works in the mediums of everything from painting, sculpture and ceramics to mixed-media, metalwork and woodworking. FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training tells the story of Lucile, a poor young nanny enlisted by a group of privileged socialites to help present a production of a Marivaux play. This smart farce is also a dark, disturbing morality play. Runs through March 11.

The Sarasota Concert Association will continues its 73rd season with Gil Shaham, violin, and Akira Eguchi, piano. Akira Eguchi is known internationally and will be joined by Grammy award-winner and Musical America’s Instrumentalist of the Year Gil Shaham, violin virtuoso.
