Sarasota Visual Artists Studios is a monthly open studio series created by a collaboration of Sarasota artists who invite the community to visit their studios and watch them in action. Shortly before its last open studio night of the season on March 3, the group is presenting a unique one-week art show featuring top Sarasota visual artists of varying styles and technique.

The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast welcomes program alumni who are now professional musicians to perform at community events throughout season in an attempt to give affordable, easy access to world-class performances. Step back in time and remember what made the’20s roar in this musical comedy. Based on the screenplay of the 1994 Woody Allen film of the same name, this musical honors the Golden Age of Broadway. A salt-of-the-earth playwright doesn’t plan on compromising his work until his producer finds a backer to get his show on Broadway. Runs through March 4.

Legendary violinist Midori joins the Sarasota Orchestra for a concert that will move your heart. In honor of the 100th anniversary of composer Leonard Bernstein’s birth, Midori interprets his ode to love via his serenade for violin and orchestra. Runs through Feb. 25.

In its second season, State College of Florida’s Bradenton Symphony Orchestra will remind audiences that all good things come in pairs. This performance will include Franz Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2;” Josef Rheinberger’s “Concerto for Organ No. 2” featuring organ soloist Dwight Thomas and the monumental “Symphony No. 2” by Beethoven.

Sarasota Ballet presents Manhattan-based guest company Ballet Hispánico for a fun fusion of classical, Latin and contemporary dance exploring the diversity of Latino culture. Founded in 1970 by Venezuelan-American dancer and choreographer Tina Ramirez, the group is now directed by former Ballet Hispánico dancer Eduardo Vilaro. Runs through Feb. 25.

Nik's Pick: Festival of Dance from the African Diaspora
Youth Artist Network will host its first large-scale event in the form of a celebration of the rich, cultural tradition of African music and movement. This two-day dance festival hosted by Sarasota Contemporary Dance features dance classes in a variety of styles from rumba to Afro modern, along with a lecture titled “Conversations on Black Movement.”

Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota changes things up with this performance by Mr. Ho’s Orchestrotica Quintet, featuring a mix of jazz, classical and world music flavored with sounds and instruments from Asia, the Middle East, the Balkans and Latin America. Critics have called them “a perfect cocktail of jazz, classical and world music” — but you’ll be the judge of that.

Legendary principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet Sergei Radchenko founded Moscow Festival Ballet in 1989 by bringing together the highest classical elements of the great Bolshoi & Kirov Ballets. They will perform “Romeo & Juliet,” the full-length ballet with Tchaikovsky’s score and choreography by Elena Radchenko, and then “Carmen,” a full-length ballet in one act.

He has made more than 100 appearances on TV, but perhaps most impressive is that Basile was recently nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on ESPN’s “30 for 30” series segment, “The Legend of Jimmy the Greek.” His stand-up performances run through March 4.
Don’t Miss: ‘Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill’
The scene opens on Billie Holiday in Philadelphia performing one of her final shows. Audiences are treated to a dozen of her beloved classics such as “God Bless the Child,” “Strange Fruit” and “What a Little Moonlight Can Do,” and in between she shares salty, occasionally funny, stories that give a unique insight into one of the greatest jazz and blues vocalists of all time, played by Melba Moore. This Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe work runs through April 8.
