Our Arts & Entertainment and Black Tie cover flip is back, and summer is officially over. Over the last few months some of us went into hiding, some of us traveled and others welcomed new family members.

On Aug. 3, National Twin Day, Ella and Dan Lewis welcomed their twin girls into the world. Margot Grace and Charlotte Rose were born 11 minutes apart. Now two months old, Ella says the twins are keeping her busy ... and awake.

“They are growing and overall happy babies,” Ella says.

Just a few weeks ago, on Sept. 21, little Everette Dawn was born to first-time parents Erin and Doug Christy. She was delivered by Dr. Kathryn Gard with First Physicians Group, who is a close friend and went to Sarasota High School with Erin.

It is tradition to use family names for the baby’s middle name in the Christy family. Dawn is Erin’s sister’s middle name, which also works for Doug, for his favorite baseball player is Don Mattingly.

“She has made the transition into parenthood a delight,” Erin says. “I was so nervous, and she’s made me so happy to be a mommy.”

Look, don't touch

To say dessert was missed during the off-season would be an understatement. 

Our local pastry chefs never fail to make the event desserts look too good to eat, or in this case, too good to wear. 

A bra-shaped chocolate creation sat on the side of the dessert table, untouched throughout the night at Key to the Cure on Oct. 11 at Saks Fifth Avenue Sarasota.

Sophie’s Restaurant and Bar designed the dessert with breast cancer awareness-colored roses, which were the centerpieces on the tables around the store.

Although this one couldn’t be eaten by guests, there were plenty of other delicious, more bite-sized pieces to go around. The dessert table featured mini cakes, raspberry tarts, a candy bar from McCain’s Old Florida Gourmet and different flavors of popcorn from Tropical Shores Popcorn.

Tidbits:

Who CAN dance? ... Word is that Mary Gratehouse and Elisabeth Waters are neck and neck for lead in this year’s CANDance, which is Oct. 20 at the Art Ovation Hotel. Online voting is live, and the final opportunity to give in support of your favorite dancer will be during the event’s paddle raise. We also hear that someone’s costume may or may not include a loincloth. We’ll leave that one for you to figure out. Although, if you don’t have your ticket yet, the waiting list is about 50 people long. Balls of fun ... Remember going to McDonald’s as a child, and playing in the ball pit was the best part? On Oct. 13 at the Raise the Roof Party, SPARCC brought out the kid in us again with its own ball pit. For added fun, a camera was set up above, so guests could create a fun photo with their friends and teammates.
