Looking for an addition to the family?
A green, 350-pound, far-roaming addition? Then look no further than your very own Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium. They have tagged seven green turtles this season with satellites — in an annual record of tagged nesting green turtles — and are tracking their movements. All of them are named (Cheeseball, Thalia, June, Amelia, Irene and Freda) but one, and it’s up to a lucky member of the public to bestow a name upon the last one.
You have until tomorrow (Aug. 9) to throw your name in the ring, according to a press article on Mote’s website. Donate via mote.org/NameMe and enter “TURTLE” in the comments box. If you can’t make a donation, send an email to [email protected] with the subject “Turtle Tag” and your name, address and phone in the email.
The opportunity to name a green turtle comes in the midst of a season that not only boasts more green turtles nesting on Florida’s gulf shores, but more nesting turtles overall.
