Commissioners reappoint Green to Planning and Zoning Board

The Longboat Boat Town Commission on Monday reappointed David Green to remain to the Planning and Zoning Board.

The commission voted 7-0 to reappoint Green, whose term was scheduled to expire in May.

“I served with David Green, and I think he’s an excellent person to come back and lead Planning and Zoning,” Vice Mayor Mike Haycock said.

The commission must also find a replacement on the board to fill a vacancy created by B.J. Bishop.

In March, Bishop was elected to the town commission.

On Monday, the commission voted unanimously in favor of postponing the nomination of a candidate to become the seventh member of the Planning and Zoning Board.

Several commissioners expressed their desires to meet some of the candidates in person. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented the commission from doing that.

“We’ll postpone that pending a physical meet and greet, and I would just say as an aside with the understanding that if it looks like that's not going to be possible for an extended period of time, we can bring this back on the agenda to do telephonically,” Mayor Ken Schneier said.

Town attorney Maggie Mooney said commissioners could interview the candidates individually or as a group.

“Right now, we are we have different processes and protocols because of the pandemic,” Mooney said. “So, either are certainly available options.”

The commission did not set a future date for when the meet and greet with Planning and Zoning candidates would happen.
