Carol Meier, 68, loves to cook, but said it can be difficult to do for just one person. So, Meier and seven of her friends began an apartment food swap to help feed each other amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Neighbors at The DeSOTA on Second Street, the eight friends have swapped everything from pear tarts and chocolate cake to matzo ball soup and red lentils. Meier said the friends take safety precautions when exchanging food such as wearing masks, gloves and standing 6 feet apart.

“I look at my refrigerator and think, “What am I going to eat next that somebody else made,” Meier said. “It makes us feel good about what we've done.”
