For the second year in a row, the Longboat Key Tennis Center 50's yellow team won its league championship.
The Suncoast League cut its season short due to the impacts of the coronavirus' spread, but at the end of the abbreviated season, the Longboat Key Tennis Center team of 16 members had a match record of 45-3. The team won last year's championship as well, and its two-year record is now 96-6.
To celebrate, many of the team members played a round robin and had a luncheon at the Cedars Tennis Resort on March 14, wrote team captain David Green in an email.
The winner’s plaque, team hats and the championship banner will be presented at a later gathering.
“We not only have a strong and deep team, we have a good time both on and off the court,” Green said.
Of the 36 teams finishing in first or second place in their divisions, 10 were from Longboat Key, either hosted at the Resort at Longboat Key Club or the Public Tennis Center.
