Firefighter Jamison Urch is about halfway through growing out his hair. It's been since last November that he made the choice to get no trim, chop or cut until his hair is long enough to Wigs for Kids, a service that provides kids who need wigs with free ones. Now that his hair is about eight inches long, he figures he's got another year to go.
Donating his hair is nothing personal for Urch, who just wanted to do something for a cause greater than himself, he said, and said he would probably do it again and try to get more people involved. For now, whenever his hair grows another inch, a few of his fellow firefighters donate $10.
Plus, Urch's longer locks don't interfere with firefighting at all, as he just ties it back when he needs to go.
