Sisters find time to play ball

Amy Gorman and Angela Massaro-Fain (above) of Lakewood Ranch's Sisterhood for Good had some fun with Bradenton Marauders' mascot Marty the Marauder July 31 during the home team's 13-10 win over Dunedin.

Sisterhood for Good, which raises money for area nonprofits, was chosen as the Marauders' "Charity of the Day." Twelve members of the nonprofit attended and they had a table at the entrance to

greet Marauders' fans. They didn't, however, get to throw out the first pitch.

"They probably know how I pitch," Massaro-Fain said.

July 17 during an annual food drive complete with a Christmas tree, snowman and a viewing of a Christmas movie.

Tarjanyi wanted to put a fun twist on her annual food drive that benefits Downtown Ministries, a nonprofit serving the homeless in downtown Bradenton, so she decided to open her home to welcome people to donate food and learn about the nonprofit's mission.

The food drive collected about 100 cases of food and water.

"I was very humbly elated that so many people were excited to help and these connections were being made for the founders of Downtown Ministries," Tarjanyi said.
