New Year brings new beginnings, and no one knows that better than new parents Jordan Sawmiller and Quay Mays.

The Bradenton couple had their first child Messiah Mays early in the morning on New Year's Day — the first child born at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in 2021. The healthy baby — born at 1:39 a.m. — weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces.

"I'm so in love with him already," Sawmiller said. "They say you don't know how much you love a kid until you have your own and that's true."

SMH nurses gave the new family a New Year's-themed gift basket to mark the occasion.

Sarasota Memorial Hospital delivered 10 babies on Dec. 31 and two babies on Jan. 1.
