Marion Gordon Lyons, Jr.
1938-2022
On Friday, December 2, 2022, Marion Gordon Lyons, Jr. (Gordon), loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away at age 84.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Alice Hastings Lyons and Marion Lyons Sr. on March 1, 1938, Gordon graduated from St. Paul’s High School and then attended the University of Miami where he achieved a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. After working his way up through the food brokerage business in Maryland, he was hired by Domino Sugar in Louisiana as the Southern Manager for Consumer Products.
In addition to his passion for his job at Domino Sugar in New Orleans, Gordon took great pride in serving as past President of Kappa Alpha fraternity and later remained active in alumni affairs, helping to start a new chapter. He also found joy in his role as a Stephen Minister at the North Naples United Methodist Church, served on the Board of Directors of the Estero Chamber of Commerce, and was Co-Chair of the Estero Design Review. He was a sports enthusiast, avid skier, and longtime scuba diver. His cremains will become part of an eternal reef, a permanent environmental living legacy, in the Sarasota Bay.
However, the greatest joy in Gordon’s life was family and being together.
After retiring and moving to Estero, Florida, Gordon met the love of his life, Vicki, and moved to Longboat Key where they have lived for the past 14 years. He and Vicki shared not only a love for each other, but also a love for good music, food, theater, and travel to many exotic locales around the world. However, the greatest joy in Gordon’s life was family and being together. Friends and family describe him as “bigger than life,” and will always remember his booming voice and infectious laughter. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind a daughter, Kathryn Menchetti, two sons, Gordon and William Lyons, his stepchildren, Michael, Matthew and David Butz and Rebecca Williamson, along with eleven grandchildren, including Melissa and Bailey Foster, Anne and Michael Lyons, Daniel and Luca Butz, Abigail and Charlotte Williamson, Ella and Eli Butz, and Althea Butz. A memorial service is scheduled for December 27th at 10:00 a.m. at the Longboat Island Chapel. In lieu of giving flowers the family asks that those who are able make a donation to the Longboat Island Chapel, where Gordon attended for many years and served as Chair of the Grounds Committee.
