Two-vehicle crash in Myakka leaves one dead, three seriously injured

A Bradenton man, 57, died when the RV he was towing separated from his pickup and sent the truck into an oncoming van.

A two-vehicle collision Saturday afternoon on State Road 70 near its intersection with Saddlebag Trail in Myakka City resulted in the death of a 57-year-old Bradenton man.

Three others involved in the crash, a passenger in the pickup and the driver and passenger in the second car, suffered serious injuries.

The Bradenton man was driving a westbound pickup truck that was towing a recreational vehicle. The recreational vehicle became separated from the pickup, causing the driver to lose control and cross into the eastbound lane, into the path of a van driven by an 80-year-old Dunedin man.

The Bradenton man was was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger in the pickup, a 52-year-old Oakland Park man, was flown to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the van was an 80-year-old Dunedin man. He and his 75-year-old female passenger, also of Dunedin, sustained serious injuries and were flown to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
