The Lakewood Ranch High girls soccer program had its best season since 2013-2014, but it came to an end Tuesday night in the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 7A regional finals.

The Mustangs (19-1-1) lost 2-1 to Palm Harbor University High (19-0) on the road in a game that went to penalty kicks. The two teams ended regulation tied 0-0, as did the first half of overtime. Both teams scored once in the second half of overtime to send the game to penalty kicks, which PHU won 4-3.

It is the second-straight season Lakewood Ranch has lost to PHU in the Class 7A regional finals by one goal; the Hurricanes won 1-0 in 2021-2022.
