Sarasota High announced Monday afternoon that it has hired Josh Phillips as its next football coach.

Phillips was previously the defensive coordinator at Manatee High, but has had many stops in his football career, including as a strength and conditioning coach at the University of California-Berkeley and as the defensive backs and special teams coach at Wagner College. Prior to starting his coaching career, Phillips played football and ran track and field at Yale University.

Phillips' Twitter profile — which already features a Sailors football image as its header — states that his mission in football is to "equip young men to excel at life and dominate on the football field."

Phillips will replace Brody Wiseman, who coached the Sailors for three seasons and compiled a 16-15 record, including a 5-5 mark and a playoff win over Manatee in 2022. Wiseman has since been hired as the offensive coordinator at Riverview High.
