Because of materials shortages, the scheduled lane closures near the roundabout at Fruitville Road and U.S. 41 have been delayed from Wednesday, Feb. 1 to Friday, Feb. 3 to Sunday, Feb. 5 to Thursday, Feb. 9.

The Florida Department of Transportation has informed the city of Sarasota of lane closures on approach to the roundabout at Fruitville Road and U.S. 41 for the second half of this week. Some of the lane closures will take place during the day.

Access will be maintained for all routes. However, similar to early January when a lane in the roundabout was closed without prior announcement, motorists can expect heavy delays in the area and from the barrier islands.

Access will be maintained for all routes.

The revised schedule is as follows:

Nighttime lane closures Sunday, Feb. 5 through Wednesday, Feb. 7 starting at midnight.

  • Inside lanes on U.S. 41 between Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue.
  • Eastbound outside lane exiting the islands.

Daytime lane closures from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6 through Thursday, Feb. 9.

Crews will excavate existing pavement and prepare the curb pad for concrete.

  • Inside lanes on US 41 between Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue.
  • Eastbound outside lane exiting the islands .

These lane closures are necessary as crews pour concrete for new median curb and new storm drain inspections.
