The Sarasota Police Department has earned reaccreditation status for another three years. The SPD was awarded during a recent meeting of the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation in conjunction with the Florida Police Accreditation Coalition at Omni ChampionsGate near Orlando.

In March, a team of assessors from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation conducted an on-site assessment of the SPD, examining all aspects of policies and procedures, management, operations and support services. The assessors found the agency in compliance with all applicable standards.

Accreditation is a voluntary process for law enforcement agencies. To achieve accredited status, agencies must comply with numerous standards, many critical to life, health, safety issues, and best practices.

“This accreditation status is further evidence of the exemplary standards we hold our officers to at the Sarasota Police Department,” said Sarasota Police Chief Rex Troche in a news release. “Our agency is committed to upholding the best practices set forth by the CFA. We’re proud of this achievement and our goal is to keep this status in years to come.”

In their final assessment report, the CFA accreditation team wrote, “It is clear the Sarasota Police Department has a genuine commitment to the accreditation process. Members of the agency were found to be engaged in the accreditation process and driven to provide excellent, professional, fair, and dedicated service to the residents and visitors of Sarasota.”
