Inside Publix on Bay Isles Parkway, caution tape surrounds the area between customer service and the start of the checkout lanes. It's an indication of a big revamp underway at the Publix grocery store.

The project will bring the installation of self-checkouts to the grocery store for those who prefer the speedy do-it-yourself approach to checking out groceries.

Publix was unable to provide further details regarding the full scope and timeline of the project.

However, there will still be some human cashiers left after the installation, so anyone who doesn’t want to use self-checkouts will still have the more personable option.
