Road rage ends in fatal shooting Saturday night

A case of road rage resulted in the shooting death of a man Saturday night on Fruitville Road near I-75. The scene is east of the Sarasota city limits.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, at around 8:08 p.m. May 13, occupants of two vehicles became involved in a verbal dispute at the intersection of Paramount Drive just east of the interstate. Deputies said the driver of a sedan, a female, and her male passenger reported a man in a pickup truck got into an argument with them before pointing a gun at them and firing.

The male passenger, who holds a valid concealed carry permit, then exited the sedan and fired several rounds into the truck, fatally shooting the driver. The two occupants of the sedan were released pending further investigation. 

None of the individuals involved have been identified.
