Man arrested in Sunday Sarasota shooting

An arrest has been made in connection with a Sunday shooting in the 1800 block of 34th Street in Sarasota. Nevaun Chamberlain, 23, is facing a charge of aggravated battery with a firearm.

An unidentified victim, who drove to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, was shot in the abdomen area and has since been discharged.

Sarasota police officers say Chamberlain remained on the scene to speak with detectives. He is also the person who called 911 to report the incident. Based on evidence and after consultation with the state attorney’s office, detectives do not believe the shooting qualifies as a justifiable use of deadly force. 

Chamberlain is now out on bond.
