Registration open for Sandy Claws Beach Run on Siesta Key

The 47th annual Sandy Claws Beach Run at Siesta Beach is set for the morning of Saturday, Dec. 9. Those who register by Nov. 17 are guaranteed the lowest price and will receive a long-sleeve performance event shirt and runner swag.

The annual event draws hundreds of runners, walkers and joggers for a 5K race and one-mile fun run. Participants are encouraged to wear fun holiday costumes.

The chip-timed 5K race will award the first- through sixth-place finishers in all age categories. Following the races, runners are invited to stay for music, food and raffle prizes. All runners may also participate in a holiday-themed costume contest.

The 5K run is sanctioned by the Manasota Track Club as part of its fall racing series. Proceeds benefit the Summer in the Parks Adopt-A-Camper scholarship program.

Online reservations may be made at RunSignup.com. Registration will be open until 7:45 a.m. on race day.

Early packet pickup will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7 at the Sarasota New Balance store at 1872 Stickney Point Road. The one-mile fun run will start at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K at 8:20. Siesta Beach is at 948 Beach Road.
